Dr Brent Woods
Specialist Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon
Services
Dental Implants
Osseointegrated dental implants to replace a missing tooth or teeth
Placement of dental implants from single teeth replacements to full arch rehabilitation. Dental implant surgery is done in consultation with your dentist from the planning phase, throughout any preparatory procedures such as bone grafting, through to the final implant insertion surgery
Jaw Surgery
Corrective jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery) for all types of jaw discrepancy conditions
Orthognathic surgery is carried out in combination with your orthodontic treatment for a number of facial patterns. An uneven pattern of growth of the jaw(s) may create an imbalance in the jaw relationship and facial proportions, or may lead to facial asymmetries. Patients may experience functional problems with chewing and speech, or cosmetic concerns around their facial appearance and profile. Small discrepancies may be treatable with braces alone, but many patients benefit significantly through a combined approach (braces + surgery) which improves facial balance and aesthetics, is more stable, and corrects functional problems.
Facial Trauma
Assessment and treatment of simple to complex facial trauma
Facial trauma has the potential for long-term functional and cosmetic problems if not dealt with appropriately. The accurate assessment, timing, surgical repair and follow-up of facial trauma is essential for a good outcome. Facial trauma has the potential to affect the bite and requires management by a suitably qualified specialist (carrying both medial and dental specialist qualifications). Dr Woods has extensive experience in the management of facial trauma including lacerations and other soft tissue trauma of the face and oral cavity, dental trauma, and bony injuries of the jaws (maxilla & mandible), nose, eye sockets (orbits), cheek bones (zygomas & orbito-zygomaticomaxillary complex), and the skull.
